REGISTERED THERAPIST 2 (ASTHMA AND COPD EDUCATOR) CASUAL RICHMOND HOSPITAL

JOB SUMMARY:
Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision, values and strategic direction of the organization, the Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Educator performs administrative and technical procedures related to Respiratory Therapy in a designated section by performing duties such as coordinating daily work activities of section, setting up and overseeing quality control of test equipment and administering diagnostic tests. In addition, the position performs diagnostic pulmonary function tests including methacholine challenges and exercise stress as designated by the British Columbia accreditation committee for Pulmonary Function Laboratories. Provides Asthma and COPD education and delivers the Rehabilitation program. Plans, implements and evaluates asthma and COPD education programs to improve the health and quality of life of patients with lung disease. Plans and leads the pulmonary rehabilitation sessions in collaboration with a physiotherapist. Develops and collects teaching material and maintains clinic database. Consults, confers and collaborates with other health care providers to share information for ongoing improvement of respiratory services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care Credentialing Exam. Two years recent related experience in detailed Pulmonary Function testing, acute care Respiratory Therapy, staff education/training, or equivalent qualifications. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
